Maybe someone can help Steve identify this Hercules diesel:

Quote:

... I don't know much about this engine. All I know is that it is a 4 cylinder (Hercules) diesel. I don't think there is any hope of getting a serial number off the tag. I can see the patent nos. but the space where the serial number goes is totally empty. Here are
some pics of the engine.
Thanks again.
Steve

A lot of the old herk's had model letters and not numbers.Something like QXD,IXB,JXD etc.The ones that I have worked with had the casting date cast into the block above the oil pan.The last 2 that I worked on allso had the model letters stamped on the block and head, they can be painted over and hard to see.You should post anything thats on the tag we can see.

I am told that this is a Series "D00" that is "D-Zero-Zero". Apparently some of those Hercules blocks were marinized by Kermath. I think it is 226 cubic inch displacement.

The D4800 is realitively new and easyer to find parts for.A version of it was used in large military trucks and other trucks so there is a supply of surplus parts around.White trucks bought the company years ago and used the engine in thier stuff.

Wouldn't just about any alternator work?
