Taking a little break from Rochester tonight. Here is a photo of Niagara Motors shop on Brigham Rd in Dunkirk. They were in another location on Third st prior to this, for a brief period. Enjoy, John Stewart |

Ernie, I got a little diverted at the library with all the Trbert-Brownell-Rochester Motors Corp digging in the city directories. I did complete the list of city directories for Rochester Gas Engine Co, but not much else to report. I can send you a copy in MS Word format if you want. Keep me in mind if you see any Rochester made engines for sale and I promise I won't bug you about yours :-) John |

Here is a pic of my Sterling "Kid". I am sure it was a "bobtail" engine. No trace or way to mount a reverse gear as in the ad. It is quite early. SN 110. The tag is brass with a porcelin glaze. The Bosch DU4 mag almost dwarfs the rest of the engine.

Hi fellow motor heads, I remember that posting from 2004 and remember feeling great that a Sterling Kid survives is such good shape. Ernie, do you still have her? Has she run recently? While on the topic, I will ask again: Does anyone have any info on a 1906 or 1907 Sterling model 14-18? She is a 151 CID 4 cyl T-head of individual cylinder castings. A very early and archaic 4 stroke from Sterling. She looks a lot like a smaller version of the early Van Blerck that has been listed as "Unknown motor". I would love to get in touch with anyone with that has ANY pre 1915 Sterling engines. I am also looking for anyone that might have info on or have a model R1-90 (4 cyl) or a R1-135 (6 Cyl) "racing engine". Cheers, Lew The West Coast Sterling guy! |

* Lew This is 1907 Sterling catalog illustration of 15-20 T Head engine. No 14-18 listed, its very possible that the 14-18 was listed in 1906 and after testing it they upped the HP to 15-20 in the 1907 catalog ??? Stoke of 5 inches, bore of 4 inches and 4 cylinders would result in 251 Cubic inch displacement ? This is one of the early two cycle headless engines This is a Model "B" T Head about 1912-13 * |

Hi Richard, Thanks for the reply and the photos. The 14-18 is in the 1906 catalog and was modernized to the 15-20 I think. The engines are very similar but the crank case casting is different in regards to the cam bosses and shape of lifter mounting pads. I will have to post some pics of her soon. Here is an older shot of the crank case with one cylinder (wrong position) sitting. Her ID tag as seen on the cylinder is flat brass and the only identification on it is the number 7014. As far as this Model B, I would love to get in contact with the owner. It uses some of the same castings and hardware as the R1-135 I have from 1911. Cheers, Lew
