February 7, 2011 The Calvert Marine Museum is planning for the Antique Boat & Marine Engine Show, May 14-15, 2011 as part of the sixth annual Solomons Maritime Festival celebrating Southern Maryland traditions. The show hours are 10 - 5 on Saturday and 10 - 3 on Sunday. In addition to antique boats and engines, some of the activities planned for Saturday include traditional music, maritime carving, Chesapeake Bay retriever trials, traditional foods, craft demonstrations, and so much more. This year there will also be a nautical yard sale. If you have anything you would like to donate, please bring it along. The schedule of events will be available on our web site, www.calvertmarinemuseum.com. As in the past, the marine engines and vintage boats will be on display in front of the museum and in the parking lot. Like the previous year we will set up awnings in the middle of the display area for the convenience of our exhibitors and to act as a focal point. Although there will be no judging, each exhibitor will receive a commemorative plaque of the event. If you would like to participate, please complete the enclosed registration form. There is no registration fee. The event is open to collectors of pre-1975 outboard and inboard engines, antique marine steam engines, and model engines. Antique and classic boats of all kinds can be displayed on trailers or afloat in the museum's boat basin. Please return the registration to me by May 1, 2011. Once it is received I will send a confirmation. If you have any questions regarding registration, please contact me at 410 326- 2042 ext. 19 or email [email protected]. For all other questions contact Richard Dodds ( ext. 31 or email [email protected] ) or Ken Kaumeyer ( ext. 33 or email [email protected] ). Your invitation includes a list of local accommodations. We have reserved a block of rooms for Friday and Saturday nights at the Holiday Inn Solomons at the reduced rate of $102 per night, the same as last year. These rooms have been reserved under Maritime Festival until May 1, 2011. When calling for reservations you must give the Holiday Inn this code "MG1." On Saturday evening, all participants are invited to a barbeque in the boat basin at 6:00 p.m. We have managed to hold the cost again to $15 per person. If you wish to join us, please include a check payable to the Calvert Marine Museum with your registration. Once again, we will also offer a free continental breakfast on Sunday morning. Indicate on the registration form if you will be taking advantage of this offer. This is our eleventh Antique Boat & Marine Engine Show and we are grateful to all those who have been faithful supporters over the years. In these difficult economic times, we have kept our costs the same as last year. Please join us in 2011 for a celebration of antique boats and marine engines. Sincerely, Sherry Reid
