Hi Jamie, saw the post on your caille, and went and dug out my engine that is similar - possibly smaller. On my engine: from the base to the top of the engine is 11", the flywheel is 10" and instead of a flanged exhaust mine is a 1" pipe thread and instead of a carb it has a 3/4" mixing valve. Mine does not have a water pump and it appears that yours does not either. I have always wondered about the pedestal type base - is it really a marine engine with this type of configuration? Phil |

Phil, Jamie's engine is a Caille Bantam, origionally supplied with a 1/2" mixer and waterpump. Many early marine engines did use pedestal mounts. See the attached link for more info on the Bantam. http://caille.8m.com/bantam/photo-gallery/lit.html Jim |

Jim, thanks for the info on Jamie's engine. Richard, the gentleman I got the engine off of told me it was a Caille, however I have not found a way to confirm it, the only markings I have found anywhere on the engine is the embossed "upside down" F you see in the picture. Anything you could tell me about would be great. Thanks Phil |

* Phil I catalog all photos of old marine engines that I can find and when trying to ID an engine I can scan through many photos, ad photos, catalogs etc and compare different styles, sizes ,years etc. With your engine in the post above I couldn't find any caille's with the same crankcase casting design, it may be an early model that I don't know of or it could be a different mfgr, not seeing any water pump or provisions for one it may have been a syphon circulated stationary of some kind ?? I asked the question hoping some one knew its origin so that I wouldn't have to add it to my unknown marine engine file that is getting longer all the time no matter how hard I try to put a mfgrs name on these old timers ! Thanks for posting the photo. * |

Phil, I have a pedestal mount Caille but it is like Jamie's. Maybe a thread in the unknown section of this site will shed some light on what you have. Jim |
