Hi Jim, I used to work at the Lunenburg Foundry when we were still building Atlantic's ! i actually machined most of the parts on the last one that was built there. It is on display at Memorial university , in Newfoundland. i would love to have a copy of the instruction book.Also , if anyone has any leads on any Atlanic engines (dead or alive), in the Nova Scotia area, i would love to start a restoration project.I live only 10 mins. away from the Lunenburg Foundry, and am in there a couple times a month yarning with my old buddies, so perhaps i can shed a little light on the parts situation. I am looking for the jug that goes to a 4hp Atlantic. Mine is rusted so the water jacket leaks. I built a 21 foot Boston Dory and put the engine in it. Now the boat just sits. Anyone that has one I would appreciate it. I am even willing to buy another complete engine. Thanks

Jug?? By that I assume you mean the cylinder. Very hard to come by, probably hardest part of the engine to find. Sorry cant help you. |

Sorry David,your engine must have been made by a different company. I don't think the Atlantic Foundry in Lunenburg made 6 cylinder engines, although I may be wrong. Any other comments? |

Whatever you do don't make the mistake most marine museums do when the get antique marine engines. If they were salt water engines make sure you don't let all of the cast iron water jackets dry out. The salt in the cast iron will expand and destroy the engines. Too many museums have ridiculed that thought so please don't be surprised when your engines all nice and dry destroy themselves due to your lack of understand the action of salt in the cast iron will cause.
Old timers used old motor oil to keep their old but useable cylinders etc in useable shape by filling the cast iron parts of the water jackets. Automotive anti freeze works well and it is easier to clean up that old motor oil. You have been warned and don't think you can ignore it!!! Good luck!!! |

Hi I need help!!! My grandfather passed away and he left me and my brother two motors. They are Atlantic's 3 hp and 6 hp. The 3 hp is working but but we will restore it. the 6 hp needs a lot of work, we want to rebuild that one and restore it and eventually put it in a 28 foot dory which it came out of. But i need direction and any info on how to rebuild these. I know that its is not seized and we need to replace the cylinder head, which i know it will be expensive. But we want to build rebuild this one and keep it in the family for my sons generation. Please any help would be great |
