Its a Evinrude cylinder, flywheel & mixer mounted on a twin block that has been capped off I can not tell if it is a outbord cylinder or inboard as the cooling port location is the best tell. If they are one above each other with the plug straight up it was a inboard cylinder. If one above the other while cylinder is Horizonial it was a rowboat motor cylinder converted. In any event it was home brew, I have a few of the home brew motors. I guess if your long on parts and short on cash you made do. Rog. |

Hello, I dont understand, I was told it was inboard motor, is any way I can look for numbers on it and also the block looks different than the outboard motor and is it worth restoring the spark plug hole is straight up and there is a screw type hole on a angle from plug |

Guess I wasnt clear, The block "could" be aluminum. The cylinder is cast iron, The two pushed out rounded area's show me it was from a 2 cylinder engine, It was someone's attempt to make an inboard motor, There is no provision for ign. The flywheel ign, that Evinrude made was first used about 1913. What it is now and what it was when new are not the same. It is a put together engine from parts of something else. The capped of area on the side of the block is where the old carburetor mounted. The water input is at the top of the cylinder, it should be at the bottom with the out let at the top. What this could have been (guess) is a 2 cylinder outboard that on cylinder went bad, A handy mechanic looked at it and said I can build something out of the parts, I do not believe it was ever finished or run like this, No spark system is present. No back plate or points, no timing lever Evinrude did make a 2 cylinder rowboat motor but they are rare. (outboard) I have quite a few early Evirudes out here on the west coast and have only seen pictures of the twin. Numbers. I would clean it and look it over. Let us know if you find anything. I hope this help some. |

Cynthia, You can also use the search link at the top of this page and enter "evinrude inboard" (without the quotes) and you will see multiple posts and pictures of evinrude inboards. Also try just "evinrude", but there will be other postings for newer outboards... |

Hello, I have taken engine apart and the crank is for two pistons and not one, so this must be the twin cylinder outboard converted to a want to be inboard. |
