This engine above was installed in this Michigan Steel boat. MSBC was known for installing DEW engines in their boats & re tagging the engine with their on brass tag but they also used engines from other manufactures located locally around the Detroit area. Maybe a Termaat & Monahan engine?

That boat must have been very "wet" - waves from any angle washing over the deck into the laps of the passengers. An inland boat for cruising on sheltered waters. Still a nice looking boat. miro |

Nice motorboat combination. Looks like two original fuel mixers being used as check valves for the carburetor cobbled to them. No idea on the engine id, Looks like about 4-5hp. Good Luck Jim |

After doing some research & looking back at some of my old DEW literature I think this engine may be one of the very 1st early DEW twin engines produced. Old literature shows that some of the DEW twins did have this 2 piece flanged type of crankcase with 3 mounting holes on each side of the crankcase. The original exhaust manifold is missing & someone has made a homemade one. The two mixers have been turned upside down & a homemade intake manifold made & attached in order to run a single carb using the mixers as check valves. For some odd reason this engine has a total of six water inlets/outlets. one on the top of each cylinder & two on each cylinder front & back & they are all bronze threaded inserts. Anyone know why there would be six water inlets/outlets ? See new photo's below.

The boat was manufactured by Michigan Steel Boat Company. This appears to be one of MSBC's 18 foot automobile boats that has been modified slightly. It could be ordered with a engine displacement anywhere from 2hp all the way up to 15 hp. |

John- keep those oilers tucked under your pillow at night. I think that they may be worth more than the engine. Blair |
