About 35 years ago my father found a parts engine for his John Deere L tractor. The JD and this Adanac marine engine both were using the same Hercules 2cyl, 4 cycle 10 HP engine probably 1930s vintage, intregal round cast bell housing, cast iron pistons, babbit bearings, 6 volt Delco starter & generator,Edison or Wico magneto, Marvel carb. The marine clutch housing carried foreward and replaced the oil pan. the marine version's drive end was the tractor version's front end so that the marine turned CCW and the tractor turned CW. The Adanac engine was found at Powell machine Shop in Mission BC and may have been built on Adanac St. in Vancouver BC. The Herculese was still running in the JD when sold about ten years ago. |
