I'm trying to determine this Graymarine model number. I can't find any plate (but really don't know where to look either).

The number "F226" on the lower skirt of the block (pic #4) tells me it is probably a Gray 109. This is a 226 CID Continental F226 industrial engine. My guess would be early 1960's by the thermostat housings.
The ID plate is on top of the reverse gear.
Hope this helps.

Ned That info is very very helpful. My only additional question would be where is the reverse gear?

peter, "reverse gear" is a general term for transmission. I expect that your Graymarine engine has a hydrolic style transmission being a 60's era unit.

Bruce , thanks for the explanation. Here's a pic of number cast into the tranny case. Does this tell us anything?

Jim Staib will know but the glimpse of the tranny cover suggests a planetary rather than hydrolic unit??

I would agree with Bruce, the little glimpse of the cover would be a 'mechanical' reverse gear.
