I'm trying to determine this Graymarine model number. I can't find any plate (but really don't know where to look either).

The number "F226" on the lower skirt of the block (pic #4) tells me it is probably a Gray 109. This is a 226 CID Continental F226 industrial engine. My guess would be early 1960's by the thermostat housings. The ID plate is on top of the reverse gear. Hope this helps. |

Ned That info is very very helpful. My only additional question would be where is the reverse gear? |

peter, "reverse gear" is a general term for transmission. I expect that your Graymarine engine has a hydrolic style transmission being a 60's era unit. |

Bruce , thanks for the explanation. Here's a pic of number cast into the tranny case. Does this tell us anything? |

Jim Staib will know but the glimpse of the tranny cover suggests a planetary rather than hydrolic unit?? |

I would agree with Bruce, the little glimpse of the cover would be a 'mechanical' reverse gear. |
