thanks Ernie; i searched here under Evinrude and noticed the carb and muffler on some engines where reversed from mine. does one spin the head around for convenience of location ? also the intake boss is such that if the carb was attached directly to the engine could it be run in the horizontal position ? |

Dan, The adapter is to make it a vertical instead of horizontal. When used as an outboard the cooling water out was on the flywheel side where the long pipe is on yours so yes it appears your cylinder has been reversed Hope this helps Ernie |

many different configurations regarding inlet- outlet bosses and placement of carb and muffler in relation to the flywheel in all these photos. there are three openings to the water jacket on mine, small threaded opening behind the flywheel, one elbow over the muffler and the pipe out the back. does the flywheel look original to you guys ? |

Dan, Your engine could have come out of a Merry Garden Auto Cultivator. Below are photo's of the Merry cultivator that my father owns. No water pump just thermo siphon from a tank of water. Chain drive magneto for ignition, no timer leaver.
