I realize this board is more about older engines but I am at my wits end trying to date and model this motor. It's an Evinrude 8hp. On the side of the transom mount there is a number stamped, 98EV813A961. You can see where the nameplate used to cover this number. Any help would be much appreciated. |

98EV813A961 is not a valid model number. Sometimes the model number is stamped into a freeze plug on a cylinder, or into the flywheel. If not you could try posting a photo on the MarineEngine.com discussion board in the Evinrude Category. Also see Evinrude info here. |

Thanks Andrew, I found the number on the freeze plug. My understanding is that based on CD8RCDE my motor is a 1986 but I don't understand the first D. Thanks again. Tim |

Are you sure it isn't an E instead of a D ? Either way I wouldn't worry about it. Additional questions about that 1986 motor should be placed on the MarineEngine.com board. Thanks. |

correction B 04451 J 5BFCRM I just found out that this is a 1984 Johnson 5 hp But I still have a couple of questions. This outboard has a 2 prong plug on the on the opposite side of the F N R lever..Would you know what this for? Also..would you know the fuel oil ratio? } |
