I have recently purchased a 17'putt putt with a 5/7 motor. I have only used it about 4 times but every time the timing is way out, when i bought the boat the lucas magneto was at right angles to the motor in one of the slots. We reset it and it was perfect in the next slot, then it started running badly, now it is at 180degrees to when i bought it. Have tightened up nut on bottom bottom of magneto, what else could be causing it ?

Merv, I can offer you a copy of the manual if it helps at all. Iam no expert so can offer no advice as it could be anything. Grayman

Merv ...I thought i posted some thing for you last night ...anyway ....I have a blaxland and Iam sure the dog that engages with the magneto is on a taper . Maybe yours is worn and you might have to fit a spacer washer under the nut and it will pull up tighter on the taper. I will check my engine as soon as I can and see what the situation is.
