I've just assembled and am trying to run my Blaxland Master Pup this type has a vaporiser rather than a carby. I currently have the engine mounted on a sturdy wooden bed with a hoper for cooling. I can get it to fire up and run for around 5 - 10 seconds but the engine jumps around a fair bit and eventually dies if I allow more fuel into the engine it extends the running time but vibration etc. seems excessive. I'm hoping that under load the engine vibration will settle down and I'll be able to run the engine more consistently. Has anyone had experience running one of these engines's outside of a boat under no load and encountered the same issues? |

Hi Julian, yes I have run my Blaxland engine without load (the prop connected and disconnected)whilst the boat was sitting on its trailer, and yes, it vibrates quite a lot. The vibration is less when in the water and under way but it is still there. I think it is just the nature of a single bore 2-stroke engine. Cheers, Bruce. |

Julian.........try retarding the ignition. I have the same engine and it was a real bastard but with the ignition retarded it settles down and runs ok. With the fuel just remember if you open up the needle valve you will flood the engine ,screw it down and you lean up the mixture and the rpm increases .......it is a matter of getting the right balance .....speaking of balance I dont think they were a particularly well balanced engine |

Thanks for your advice Peter and Bruce, had another run last night and things are looking much better now, time to move on to my 3.5hp restoration. |
