Hi All,

I have just removed the TXRR from its engine bed in the boat I am restoring and thought someone might like to see a pic.

Despite the rust, it all appears OK, the magneto looks good and there appears to be plenty of compression. Here's hoping.

Maybe this time the pictures will load.inout

To those whom are very familiar with the Blaxland Twin 5 \7 HP [TXRR] There is a pic on ebay of one in a boat which has notably smaller cylinders than i have seen before [as a twin] Surely it is smaller than the 5 \ 7 HP advertised , and smaller than the normal 3.25" bore!? [I did not want to ask this publicly at ebay- and un necessarily worry anyone over nothing]
I remember the late John Forrest telling me of a smaller twin called the "K" Model.? Anyone know details of this engine? At;

Or; search ebay...

Hi - You probably know this, but for other readers, it is critical that you flush out the cooling water jackets and fill them with something oily to stop the dreaded rust wedging - glycol coolant, thin oil, soluble oil, kero, remembering this oil will need flushing out before the first run to prevent problem with oily slick on our lovely waterways.

Hi Greg, It appears to be a 5/7. I think the photos were stretched a little in the original post. Going by the size of the plugs and flywheel it brings it into perspective, Even the Maggy seems stretched.. Just an aside.. It seems she has had quite a few Sister Ribs fitted over time.. I think his buy now pricing is maybe a little rich...
Cheers,

Dave

I think his pricing on a new motor is also a bit stretched. Have you noticed the position of the
water out let ports and the elongation of the water
inlet ports.
It doesn't look fully reco'ed to me.
Maggy is also in the reverse position.
Clutch assy isnt any Blaxland one I have seen.
Their have been a number of "fully reco'ed" motors
on ebay recently.Boyd has some very interesting
photos on dvd of one sold 3mths ago, nothing on it
was usable and the whole thing had been faired
over with auto body filler.
I might note that for the thick end of a year
Brett has had nil stock of cylinders, manifolds.
mufflers, due to foundry problems, which has now
been addressed. So where are all these "fully recoed" engines getting the parts from.
Their have been some good motors and gear sold
But Unfortunately there are some people who just want to make a quick buck, and I dont think it helps our image of restoring and using these old
motors and boats. They also waste valuable hard to get parts.
So now that I have vented my spleen ,I'll get
down off my soap box and let you all continue.
Todd

Just been having a chat with Boyd, about the strange
Blaxland. It one of a couple of specials Orb made
decades ago,had the shorter pots and different pistons, apparently
went like the clappers, dont know how good a condition the pistons, cylinders will be in as
what you see is all there was made,no spare parts
for the top end of that motor

Re Finger Clutch> Orb had the patterns for those
I think Brett may have them now.But I dont think
he is interested in making any more of them.
You will have to ring him and find out.
Re Idle speed> No spec ,just whatever it will run at
Re Popping > Either too lean or worn mains letting air into crank case
Re My name > TODD VIDGEN
