Not really. Blaxlands weren't just made in on place, They were made under license in several places NSW,SA,Vic etc In some cases the serial numbers on the cylinders were specific to a trade customer. For example Orb Rose had his number sequence , and if he made some cyls for Boyd he would put a different sequence of numbers on so you could distinguish between a Boyd built motor and one of Orb's in the case of a warranty issue (very rare occurrence)Brett Jacobs also has his own sequence and he uses letters and numbers. I have 2 of Orbs motors on the shelf in pieces one is #2210 the other is 8719 . I have seen numbers as low as 1500 Orbs motors were in the 9000"s when he passed on. I have some cyls here from brett that start with the letter C. The trick shot here is that the base plate lasts a lot longer than the heads , so it may have several heads on it in its lifetime. The bases also had the serial # on them, but it was frequently disfigured/destroyed by corrosion or poor dismantling . I have also seen matching # on Carbs Cheers Todd |
