Hopefully not wearing out my welcome here. To round out my display collection of Blaxland engines I am planning to make a cutaway SXT single so that people can understand the simplicity and brilliance of the two-stroke engine and, of course, the ingenuity of Australian engineering. Does anyone have a surplus engine, or parts thereof, for one of these? One with a blown water jacket would be suitable and crankshaft clearances and bearing condition are unimportant. I have a connecting rod and piston left over from the twin (it runs as a single due to a cracked rear cylinder. Happy to pay transport but no real budget for purchasing parts so hoping for generosity. Rob Cook |

Just for information there was a beautiful cutaway of a Blaxland Twin including clutch, shaft and prop at the premises of St George Motors Princes H'way Arncliffe (Blaxland Motors)in the 1970/80's. Goodness knows where it is now.It was eyecatching and did indeed show the simplicity ,brilliance and ingenuity of Australian engineering ! |

Rob, Can you post pictures of your rig? Do you have a propeller shaft and if so what diameter is it? You need a propeller to fit your shaft and the stuffing box to fit that shaft also to keep the water out. Size and pitch of propeller is important as is the length of the shaft if your looking for one. I had a Fitter and turner knock up a coupling for motor to clutch. You need two,one each end of the dog clutch? It might be easier to go to a boat yard to find second-hand bits. Small yachts with inboard motors often go out of commission. The chandleries at these yards sell them new for an arm and a leg. The rudder too is relevant to the size of your boat. Make one to suit your boat. A boat without a rudder..MMMmmmmm. sounds familiar.poor lost souls. |

WE just need the YOKE/handle part for clutch,,the rest is there,,It must have 20mm travel in prop shaft ? for it to operate? |

I have a clutch handle you can have - Sydney location. The other bits could be made from stock sizes if you have access to a decent workshop. |

It must have 20mm travel in prop shaft ? The whole propeller shaft goes back and forth as you engage and disengage the dog clutch approx 20-30mm. Depending on the design of the boat, this means the propeller could potentially touch the rudder when disengaged. Also as the propeller turns it drives the clutch into the engage position and pushes the boat along CAUTION. When you buy your propeller. There are right handed and left handed propellers. You need to determine which way your motor runs.

Hi ive been wondering about this, i get that the forward engagement locks the clutch with the pressure generated by the prop, but what happens in reverse, does the prop pressure pull the clutch apart ? |

Folks, Sorry about the tardy reply but I understand Brett Jacobs had/has all the old St George Motors 'stuff' as well as most of Aub Rose's. Cheers Laurie. |

ps. At least for the Blaxlands I have had the clutch has to be held forward when running in reverse because the prop does pull the shaft back as suspected by John. Regards. |

EDIT > I might be thinking about the twin motor which runs both ways. There are right handed and left handed propellers. You can choose . I have had both with Blaxland. I prefer drive into engage. I think they were released from the manufacturer the other way around. |

John what happens in reverse, does the prop pressure pull the clutch apart The propeller does pull a dog clutch apart when engaged but a dog clutch does not have reverse, you need a gearbox for reverse. Interestingly,if you slip the clutch for easing up to the dock, the dog clutch wears out quickly and it can start slipping continually, making it hard to make way. Don't slip your clutch! Slam it into gear and leave it. It is a bit of a guessing game when to disengage when nosing up to the dock. Good fun..Use the current or the wind and drift up or oars or all the above, but don't slip the clutch. Dog clutches only work for forward motion. |

Hi unless you have a super pup. Runs forward and revers by turning the magy when about to stall. No gearbox. Change engine rotation. Neet stuff. |
