Hi Bob. Oils, petrol and grease have been discussed on this forum in great detail about a year or so ago. Check back through the posts and you will find it. Todd Vidgen is the bes bloke to fix your maggy. Cheers, Bruce |

i had to ring many oil chemists over the years before i found where to get the [Blaxland-recommended] monograde SAE50 in domestic quantities. Apparently its a 'base oil' [which hasn't had the toxic chemical-packages or detergent added to it which stink like a worn-out car when burnt] Tru-Blu Oils in VIC AU. 2yr ago it was $20 for 5 litre + $15 postage.! there you go! |

Hi Greg, yeah I did a lot of research on the same subject but found it pretty hard to find a straight 50 grade oil in quantities less than 20 litres, even Tru-blu. I ended up using Penrite Vintage EP Mild Gear Oil which is available in 2 litre packs. It has been working fine for me for about 12 months (sorry Todd, I know you'll disagree). Cheers, Bruce F. |

I'd be concerned about EP additives in a crankcase with hot salty air and bronze components. I know you musn't use EP oils in older worm differentials that have bronze components. There are heavy gear oils around that do not have EP additives (nasty Sulphur and Chlorine). |

Hi Greg, yeah I took that into consideration. Penrite claim the the Mild EP is compatible with copper alloy components because it was designed for vintage engine gear boxes. Bruce. |
