I have two of these engines with v-drive. Planning on putting one in a Shepherd 16 ft. Am in need of gasket sets and perhaps bearings. understand this is the marine version of Hercules IXB 4 cyl engine. Ant idea where to go for parts. |

Hello Joe - I have a Michigan Marine Senior Four which is a Hercules IXB with a Pargon gear box.
A long time ago I was able to contact Jerry Biro, P.O. Box 206, Martinburgh, OH 43037 Phone 740/745-1475. I do not know if he is still there but at the time, he said he had acquired all the Hercules engine parts for the smaller engines.
The particulars on the engine are:
3.25 bore x 4.00 stroke, 132.7 cu. in. displacement, 45 HP @ 3400 RPM

Bob, thank you for the information.I received about five different suggestion for the parts from various sources.I have the parts manuals on the Universal engine and I'm interested in the Hercules manual to use as a cross-over. Any ideas.Also do you have any idea what color this engine was painted? Thanks again for you response. |

As it is 1/8/06, I am obvisously coming late to this discussion of Universal Unitmite 4s. I have one of the last series of the model (1966) installed in my 1951 steel yawl and it continues to work well along with its Universal v-drive. Starters and electrical parts--coil, plugs, wires, points, rotor, condensor, distributor are still available via NAPA and a cross-reference to Sierra. I replaced my generator with a high-powered charging alternator and the old AC fuel pump with electric ones. Still have the Sherwood bonze impeller waterpump and Zenith carb. So far so good. The color of the Universal engine was a light green. Also I heard the Unimite was similar to a Chriscraft model B engine. |
