A couple of weeks ago I rescued an Atomic Two (with a Hurth reverse gear). The boat I pulled it from had partly filled with rain water a number of times which filled the reverse gear with water, filled the started with water and partly filled the magneto. It is free and turns over. So far I have salvaged the starter and magneto and have both of them working again. The reverse gear is also now off. The engine is bit rough looking, but I think it will be up and running before the end of the year.
..... another one saved.

Not running by the end of the year,..... oh well.
I pulled the reverse gear (it looks pretty good inside). I also dropped the oil pan (a good bit of nasty peanut butter like stuff in the bottom of the pan from downflooding of water when the boat filled with rain). The engine was not turned over from well before that, so no harm. The insides look like new.
I gave the carb a going over and cleaning and put it back on. I thought I'd see if it would run bobtail.... As it turns out the valve seats must be too dirty to give any compression. It will be an easy job to pop the head and dress up the valves and seats, but I have to shelf it for now to get back to a rebuilding project on my big wooden boat. --- That has a pair of Chrysler Crowns in it, so it's not like in getting away from vintage engines. :-)
