Hi all, just joined up as i have an engine i need info on! It is a Gaines Universal six cylinder sidevalve of approx 2.5 ltr (152 cu in. Date circa 1935? Gaines Gearbox & propellor company were a British company based in Brentford Middlesex near London, it would appear that they had the engines built in the USA by Universal motor Co then imported them onto the UK. Im looking for a manual for the beast, guy i bought it from had it but seems to have lost it. Any info appreciated. |

Some progress! Last year the ex owner found some boxes of parts & a supposedley new cylinder head, I picked them up but by the time i got there he had lost the head! Last week it turned up again & i picked it up. Labels in the boxes of parts identified the engine as an All American Six. The head appears to indeed be a new old stock item so a rare result! The ex owner still hasnt found the promised manuals etc but they may turn up in another 5 years! |
