I'm in the process of rebuilding a series N (1927 - 1928) Flexifour. The planetary output shaft spline wear at the clutch plates indicate the engine to be a standard LH so flywheel forward and would swing a RH prop. Can anyone confirm this without me having to read the valve timing!!! Thanks.

It's finished. Thanks for everyones help. Without this site, I really don't feel I could have ever restored this engine. Your knowledge base is unbelievable.

Very nice job Peter. What paint did you use?

The Universal four attached looks like a similar engine just not restored - yet.

Robert,
The paint is Detroit Alpine Green. I used it becaue it matched the old paint plus a written confirmation here that it was the proper color.

The red Universal you have is the earlier version (pre 1927) of the Flexi. You'll notice the intake/exhaust manifold is cast as part of the block. Also it's got the earlier and longer trans on it.

Thank's for the pictures. Are you going to restore it?

Pete

Thanks Peter - the Universal engine is for sale: it is located near Albany, NY. Note that both of the small cast brass adjusting levers are still there but it needs a magneto and a carburetor.

Cheers

My Flex came without the carb and mag as well. Getting the mag wasn't a problem except for the $500 cost!!! I connected up Steve at "Mainely Magnetos" and he built one for me. Fantastic job!!

The carb was a different story and still a issue. The original would have been a Zenith T3X. I found that John at "The Carb Shop" has several but needed to open them up to check if he had a good core. Evidently the T3X had problems with a thin cast section cracking inside. If he did have a good one, he would be getting $1500 for it rebuilt!!!!! I passed at this time and found the current carb off ebay and rebuilt it. It's a cast iron Zenith 10748D off a old Wisconsin V4 industrial. Same throat size but it's also got the adjustable high speed jet to tune it to the Flexi. I'm still looking for the T3X!

Peter - call Ms. Mattie Bellamy @ Zenith Fuel Systems, 276.669.5555 in Bristol, VA and see if she can help you find a T3X. She sold me some parts for an obsolete Zenith for my Niagara Four.

And try CarbsOnly @ 877.333.3130

Peter
Very good looking engine. I hope to have my Kermath look as good as your engine.
Great job.

Frank,
Thanks! Now, knowing you, I don't feel you'll have any problems with that Kermath coming out looking fantastic. .

Robert,
I did get in touch with Mattie after you mentioned her before. She couldn't help. I will try "Carbs Only" too. Thanks,
I've also got "Daytona Parts" working on it.
