I would like to convert our 6V Universal, model BN, engine into a 12V. Where can I 1.) get a compatible 12V generator OR 2.) where can I get the parts necessary for a conversion? |

My experience has been that conversions to 12V are usually fraught with difficulty and rarely work out as planned. I figured out a way to get the starter to work on 12V , yet the whole rest of the boat still works on 6V. The 12V starting won't hurt the starter as long as you don't run it too long. With 12V the engine kicks over smartly and usually fires right away. The down side of this arrangement is that you need a second 6V battery and you'll have to charge it up from time to time. The upside is the engine starts way better and all you have to do is get a second 6V battery. I posted the diagram some time ago, but I cannot find it. Andrew - do you recall what section it is in? miro |
