Hi there, I have a Gradner 4LW with a Snow Nabstedt reversing transmission in my boat. The boat was built in 1949, so im assuming the engine and trans are around the same era. The trans is stuck in forward. Took the cover off , and can see moving parts when cycling from fwd. to neutral to rev. but it will not come out of fwd. If engine is running and I put it in rev. it stalls. Cant find any info on this anywhere. Any help will be much appreciated. |

Forward is engaged when the clutch disc are compressed, reverse is controlled by the band. It sounds as though the disc are stuck, if it sat with the gear in forward for a long period, especially if there's moisture present, the disc will stick together. I'm not familiar with the exact working of your trans, but apply the forward gear and see what goes on, usually some levers going over center to squeeze the disc, be sure it's releasing when it goes back to neutral, if so, try tapping on the drum, a heat gun may help. Next step would be disassembly. |
