I have aquired an unused P5MC marine engine no 57108. 4Hp 1500rpm.I am rather puzzled about this engine & wonder if anyone can throw any light on it.It is in its original factory finish & has clearly not been repainted because all the gaskets are unpainted. It has never been run, the mag is unused, the exhaust clean, the top of the piston clean & the nuts look as if they have never had a spanner on them. However the piston is 20 thou oversize, this can be clearly seen through the spark plug hole. The engine is still tight & needs to be run in. Could this be an unused original engine which for some reason has been fitted with an oversize piston, or possibly a Stuart factory reconditioned one with all the parts being repainted before assembly, like a new one.Any thoughts would be appreciated. As I am emigrating to a country in Africa where a boat cannot be used I would be prepared to either sell this engine or exchange it for one of the open crank models. It clearly should go into a period boat to make best use of it.Anyone interested in making a serious offer or exchange for it can telephone me on 01704 536661.I am in Southport in the UK. |
