I have a Suart-Turner Type N marine engine. According to Fairways these were produced in small quantities in the early 1930's and they have no further information. It is smaller than any other S-T engine I have come across (exepting models) with a bore and stroke of just 1 3/4" x 2" and has a cam operated diaphragm coolent pump rather than the usual 'banjo' type. Does anyone else out there have information on this engine |

Nick ....how lucky are you? I would love one of those real old S/T's.Your engine would more than likely be circa 1924. Send me your email and i will show you one that was exhibited in the UK at the ''Full QuartCrank UP'' in 1999. |

Hi Peter, Recieved wisdom has it that S-T did not enter the marine engine business 'till 1928/9 with an order for 100 engines (Type?) from a Danish businessman. However the Type N seems to have existed as a stationary unit some time before that.(Don't be fooled by the magneto by the way, it's just one I happened to have 'on the shelf') I have been trying to piece together a chronology for the small two-stroke range of this fascinating company, but there seems to be very little hard evidence of what was available when. Do you have anything which might help? I'm not using a dummy email address so just click on 'Nick H' for mailto. |
