This is my first posting, so here goes!!!! My interest in enjoying our 15' putt putt has been frustrating, however has recently been rekindled. It is powered by a ST P66 which runs smoothly but spoiled by a gearbox which pops out of forward gear. It is fitted with the fore/aft type lever box, not the traditional rotary style. I have recently requested assistance in the form of advice as to how to solve this problem from one well known enthusiast, but would appreciate more help and ideas. Someone may even know someone here in Melbourne willing to "look" at it for me. I would also like help with the following questions: Q1) Fuel. Should we be using leaded or unleaded fuel and 2-stroke oil as used in outboards or something else? The book recommends regular grade petrol with an SAE 30 or self mixing oil. Q2) Gearbox Oil. The hanbook calls for grade SAE 30 or 20/50 oil. Looking at the array of oils available I am not sure what to use. Synthetic? Ashless Dispersant etc??? Q3) Stern Tube. A lime-base water repellant grease! Any ideas? Q4) Water Pump. Ball bearing grease. Would wheel bearing grease such as Mobilgrease HP be OK? Q5) Any other servicing ideas would be most welcome. I usually have to remove and clean the valves in the water pump prior to each use as they get stuck. Could they cope with a smear of grease to prevent this? I look forward to good advice from all you ST experts out there. Thanks in anticipation of a flood of advice....... Mike Sutcliffe Sarah Kate Melbourne |
