I am a new owner of a 19 foot river boat with a P55ME in good condition. I am using 50:1 premium unleaded fuel with a 2 stroke outboard motor oil (valvoline). When we start the engine it runs powerfully for about half an hour and then halves in speed and depending on mood runs at either full or half pace. When this happens the throttle seems to make no difference. Does anyone on this board have a suggestion as to where I start to solve this issue ?

Try something simple first. Check the fuel tank gas cap vent hole, If the vent is plugged the engine will starve but struggle to run

Dear Roger,

Thank you for the suggestion. I did unscrew the fuel cap while the engine was in it's low revving mood but it did not make a difference. I will double check the vent hole regardless.

thanks again

Anthony Hall.

When I used to work on with those engines installed the biggest trouble we had was crankshaft seals letting air in to the crankcase, might be worth a check,
Keith
