Has anypone tried making their own compression collars for an R3M? By 'compression collars' I mean the newer type of steel collar that sits on the crankshft inside an oil seal (not the steel - phosphor bronze assembly typical of older units). With Fairways now in liquidation and Marlex not answering e-mails, I thought I might have a go at making my own. The machining marks on the collars I have suggest they are drilled / reamed (or bored) internnally and cylindrically ground externally. I'm guess they are also case hardened but can't be sure. Before I embark on my 'adventure', I'm keen to know if anyone has tried making these collars before. Your thoughts please!.... |

I have reconditioned a few of them. Its just machinable steel not hardened at all. Just turned them out with a round nose tool.
