Hi there, It's a bit of a long shot, but I am looking for a cylinder, piston and gaskets for a Stuart Turner P5 engine. The water cooling system on my marine engine is clogged up with some kind of hard deposit which cannot be moved/cleaned in any way. I recently purchased a Stuart Turner P5 stationary engine in the hope that I could use it for spares, but later found out that the cooling system is not compatitble. Does anyone have any of these parts I am looking for and if not would someone be kind enough to point me in the right direction so that I could get hold of these parts. Thanks in anticipation |

Hi Ben, concerning the non-compatability, is the replacement P5 of the 4 bolt head variety, or is it a crankcase variation?. I may have some spares for the 6 bolt head variety. e-mail me:- a1941.h(at)tesco.net |

I stock most gaskets for the P5 and R3M. Also lots of restored parts. Correct green paint is also available in 500ml tins. David Schofield |

Hello Don't give up on the cylinder just yet. There's a very useful article on this site regarding corrosion and cast iron engines. If you have the inclination to DIY this could save you some expense. http://www.oldmarineengine.com/technical/corrosion_1.html I'm in the process of restoring a R3MC that has saltwater corrosion. The article describes several methods of neutralising the problem. Dave B |

I hope you are someway to solving the problem of spares. If you decide to go down the replacement path I'd appreciate first refusal of the parts. I have two P5Ms that I'll be tackling in a few months time. I believe both were used as auxilliaries and both came from near the sea, so I am expecting them to require the water porting being ungunged. I wouldn't mind your redundant parts to practice on. Send me an email and indicate a price. |
