on starting my engine after several weeks lay off it will only run and idle if the choke is `played `.closing the choke lever causes engine to stop, as in fuel starvation.engine only restarts using choke and will run if choke is ballanced in open/closed position. |

Does sound like not enough fuel or too much air. The Zamak (monkey metal) alloy diecasting between carb and block is prone to distortion, so might be worth a look there. |

Look for blockages in the jets,or loose joints allowing air in,sometime when not used for extended periods a white crystalline powder forms and blocks the jets and fine galleries. Was the carburetor removed? The reason I ask ,is late last year an engine was bought to me with a very similar problem. It turned out that the gasket between the float bowl/main jet assy and the throttle butterfly/idle screw assy(bit that attaches to block)had been fitted incorrectly, blocking one of the fine passages.Refitted and Hey Presto!! it ran Hope this helps,Todd |
