Well, after making more gasket changes and alterations to the exhaust outlet, and also fine tuning the timing of the ancient maggy, guess what?, she started first push of the button. Getting her to run smoothly was another matter, after much mucking around with the choke and carby she was still backfiring. Then we noticed the crankcase drain plugs, on this model there are four, we had taken them out several times when restoring and rebuilding this bugger of a engine and already knew that the threads on the brass plugs where nearly smooth. Well a lot of fuel mixture was escaping from these when the engine was running hence causing the engine to run quite lean. But i must admit pushing her back to her position in the shed next to No1 P55M i had a smile a mile wide on my face because we had actually got her to run and we new what our next phase of action was to be{new plugs and drain taps}. After fixing our latest little problem she will get another coat of paint and i will be spending a day in front of the polisher and only then i will claim she is finnished. Matt and Ron. Ps does anyone know of a supplier of BSP fittings in Australia. |
