Chaps - I came across this water pump failure mode with my R3MCD; I thought it worth sharing. I'd noticed the engine gradually running hotter & hotter; so much so that lifting the lid on the engine box resulted in a little more power (indicated by an increase in charging rate)! I focussed my attention on the water pump; watching the suction pipe, I noticed a little water was displaced out of the pipe before the inlet valve had a chance to close; clearly the through put was suffering. Whipping out the valves & valve caps, I noticed the bleeder hole that allows the valve to move axially without hydraulic locking was almost completely blocked, promoting the very sluggish valve movement. Cleaned out with a suitably sized twist drill, the engine is now back to its previous performance! Regards. H. |
