I know that these things are rare as hens teeth to come across, but does anyone have a spare expansion cover plate? The one from our P55MRE restoration project is that blocked with rust and this black rock hard substance, that i think it is unrepairable, some cast iron has already broken away from the bottom of the plate and more looks likely to follow. I hope someone can help. Matt and Ron. |

Hi Dave and Matt ,Boyd is selling his Stuart because I'm sick of stepping around it to cart parts of superior motors past it,give him a ring(but call him Walter>re "The odd couple")I love to see the expression on his grumpy old dial when this happens. But seriously the man has heart of gold and generosity to match. |

Todd, the news that another Stuart may be on the market is great , but alas we only need the cover plate to finish our MRE. My mother and wife are constantly whinging about how much time and money we are spending on our Stuarts and the RubyToo. My dad and i want to get our latest Stuart up and running and possibly break even on its sale. I would really like to have another as i have the bug big time, i lie awake in bed at night thinking of fitting my job and family life around our current Stuart restoration. But on a serious note my youngest daughter Ruby, whom the RubyToo was named after has a genetic disorder called Rett syndrome, Ruby is severely disabled and at the age of five needs a wheel chair more than i need another Stuart. So, someone must have a expansion cover plate. I have attached a pic of the old man and Ruby in the RUBYTOO. Regards Matt |

Thanks for having a look Roger, i will continue on with a few leads on spare plates and ideas for repairing the original one. its just frustrating that a engine such as the P55 is so well engineered except for the cooling system. Matt and Ron. |

Last chance everyone, final call for a cover plate, even if it is attached to a engine, any scenario will be considered. If our search comes to a unhappy conclusion we will probably look at making one from stainlesss, as work on clearing the original is just resulting in chunks of iron breaking off. Matt and Ron. |

Before you wreck it, can you not use your cover plate as a pattern and get one cast in iron but of lesser thickness. You could then mill out a hollow in it and use your stainless plate as a spacer with mating holes to allow water into the hollow? We do the same sort thing when doing steam engine ports -saves making core patterns. Just a thought. For that matter, you could face off what you have until it exposes the water area and mill that out. (I could explain this better with a pencil and paper) |

Matt.....I have found it ,in fact found two of them. I will send an image latter today so as to be sure we are both talking about the same thing. If it what you want let me know .I will also put in the lathe and clean up the face ,,,I have done this in the past and it ensures a good sealing surface We had better work out how to get it to you. |
