I finally got my little r3 running. very satisfying and sounds good. i get quite a bit of vibration from it at high revs any ideas, and it doesnt like low revs very much which makes docking awkward, but i did have it running continuous for about 4 miles with no prob on medium revs. Anyway, i was wondering if it is possible to attach an alternator somehao to get power to charge batteries (85ah) or would this pull to much load as well as powering the boat along? thanks in advance |

Dave - I've an R3MC equipped with a Siba direct-drive dynastart (see my 'recently completed project' post); it has a 90 watt output &, when charging a flat-ish battery, makes the engine work noticably harder. When charged it behaves no differently to my other manual start R-types. I'm guessing your R3M has an Amal carb; the engine should happily (& reliably) tick-over @ 600 / 700 RPM; it sounds as though the slow-running jet & jet passage is blocked. It'll be worth stripping & cleaning. If fitted with a Stuart carb, then the hex headed jet needs a clean. Regards, H. |
