Hi folks, as both a new member,and owner of a P66D,I hoped you might be able to give me some idea as to how hot my Dyna can run without giving me cause for concern.After she's been running for 15 to 20mins. I find it to hot to hold my hand on for more than 5secs or so. The Dyna has just been re-built, and is tip top, the battery is like wise, and I get a reading of 14v when running,and a new Bosh reg. also fitted. Regard,s Clive. |

Hi Clive, I have a P66D and the dyna does get really hot as well and I have always presumed that when it is generating a serious load it must create heat, not being an electrician I cannot be certain though. Mine is overhauled as well but it has never been spectacular at turning the motor over unless the battery it fully charged ie battery charger for a day. I usually start by hand now as it is quite easy, 1/2 throttle, full choke, 2 -3 seconds of Start Ya Bastard and a full revolution on the handle before quickly juggling the choke and throttle once it fires and runs. After a lot of heart ache learning the start and running ideosyncrasies I have grown to love and trust the motor dearly (except now the petrol price is on it's way through the roof) My sister in law in Ohio complained about petrol hitting nearly $4.00 per gallon HA! we pay over $2.00 per litre in NZ, thats NZ$8.50 or about US$6.50. Thanks for your comments Roy.It would seem that from what you say that a hot dyna is acceptable. I did have a word with the man that rebuilt it,and he was happy that it was knocking out a steady 14volts max,no more,ie not biteing of more than it should chew,and the fact that it was an enclosed unit ment it would run hotter than yer average car dyno that he mostly deals with. I have mine inboard of a 19ft sailer so she's a bit more enclosed than some iv'e seen whilst browsing through the forum,boy there are some right little beauties around,makes you feel proud.I'm going to install a little electric fan in the timber caseing surrounding the engine.Should help. Like you say the fuel price is a real downer,at least i've got a sail to help me along,but I do love my P66 with a hot dyna.Cheers,Clive |
