Does anyone know of the number to quote when ordering a oil seal for a p55 gearbox, i am in Australia. Also if a engine has undergone a top end rebuild is it usual have to tighten up things up a bit after a couple of long trips? ie head stud nuts. Any help would be great. |

Mathew........after a few hours running it is a good idea to nip the head bolts down ,do it in sequence starting from the middle. Re rear gearbox oil seal .It is something I should have down in my memory book . It is a standard imperial size oil seal easly obtained from and bearing supplier. If you can take it in with you as a sample....I will try and get you a size ,a bit handicaped at the moment with a dicky ankle. |

Mathew ,if you quote the following number TTO EO23 SC 200 112 37 This will give you a seal that is effective for a housing of 2 inches and a bore or shaft size of 1.125 diam Both seals in the box for the mainshaft are the same |

Thanks very much Peter for the info, we had a great day out on the water the other day the p55 ran very well again besides the leak from the gearbox seal, which is none the less contained by a neat little tray made of galvo sheet. By the way what do you use to help the seal between the exhaust outlet and the exhaust pipe.? At the end of a long trip there is always some black gunge leaking on to the expansion chamber. Once again thanks for the info. |

Mathew ,I guess that your exhaust fitting is of the nut and olive type . Or does the flanged end of the exhaust pipe fit up against the belled stub end and is held by a brass nut? Whatever it is it is a problem .As the engine is a two stroke with oily exhaust I am afraid it is a consequence. You might try a heat resistant cord [dare I say the word asbestos?]This will if you wrap it around the mating surfaces take up some of the leak as you tighten the nut.It will also coke up and perhaps minimise that oily gunk.Unless it is too bad a wipe over now and then will do .....sorry. |
