Hi Folks

This is the first time I have contributed to this site but I have used it a great deal while I restored an R3M over the last year. You'll be pleased to know it runs so sweet it's incedible.
However, I now have a P6 marine engine which I wish to restore and then build a boat, open launch, to go with it. I have a couple of questions:
The P6 has an Amal carb on it, is this standard or a later modification?
The mag is a Wipac, the sort that you can't spin, you turn it against a spring and then it clicks over, I have not come across this type before is there anything I should look out for?
I'm also looking for a brass silencer and petrol tank for it, I'm in Surrey, UK.
Finally has anyone got any information about the P6, all ive got is a copy of an old picture.

Regards to all

Robin

Robin , nice to hear that your R3M runs so well , I have one also and it runs like a clock. Was or is yours in a boat and what size is the hull?
The P6 is just a later version of the P5 [ a couple more HP] I dont have one but I believe the Amal cab is standard on this model not a modification .The earlier P5 had a Stuart carb
The impulse magneto is to give that sharp flick when you crank it over. I have info on the P6 .If you have specific questions let me know.
Have a look on the Technical Section on this site I am sure there is info on setting impulse magnetos

Thanks Peter
I can't believe your responding to my message at 5.53am!!! It is much appreciated. The R3M is not in a boat, its mounted on a trolly, I built for it and I displayed it at a show for the first time recently. I am into boats, I have a small narrow boat and used to sail, that is why the success of the R3M made me look for something a little larger to go in a self build.

Thanks again

Robin

Hi Robin, I have a P66D in a 16ft clinker I built last year. Went on a 6 hour run yesterday and it just purrs along pushing the boat very well. I understand the P66D is the twin cyl coil ign version of the P6. Can supply photo if interested. I am in NZ. Cheers Roy

Thanks Roy
I'm ok for engine pictures but would like to see some of your clinker launch.
Another problem has occurred, the cooling chanels and water pump have oily gunge in them and around the cylinder head it is baked on. I'm hoping this is because the engine has been running in water contaminated with oil, does anyone have any other suggestions?

Regards
Robin
