Nothing special Ivan.....about 12 thou for the points .Clean them with a piece of white paper unless they are badly burnt ,if so you may have to dress them with a points file but dont be too drastic. As you say a great little engine .I had mine at a show last weekend and it ran perfectly .Is yours in a boat ? |

Hi Peter, I have a R3M mounted in a 17 ft boat which I am restoring. I have posted a request in the gears section to find out how to replace the bearings in the gearbox. I am at a loss as to how I remove the largest bearing in the gear train, any help would be much appreciated. |

Anthony....It is a long time since i had the box in pieces. From memory it is not a difficult job.A bit fiddly with some small compression springs but if done carefuly you should not have any trouble.Make sure you have a good pair of circlip pliers and you will need a special box spanner ....I will give you the size later [It's night here]. I can send you a section diagram which will help you. The bearings are standard imperial sizes and available at your local bearing supplier. Take the box to pieces systematicaly ,maybe take a digital photo as you go ,it will help you on reassembly |

Thanks very much for the info Peter. My engine is in a boat, she's a14 ft clinker fishing boat. There used to be a lot of similar boats here in Looe Cornwall,Where i live, all with R3MC's,unfortunately health & safety got the better of them,as they were hire boats.Do you know much about flywheel magneto versions, my dad has the bottom end of one? |
