Hi, Unfortunately last summer water entered the gearbox and seized. I am trying to get the gearbox off to take to fairways. I have released all the hex bolts but cannot turn the prop nut. Can anyone tell me which way to turn to loosen it ? I have tried a blow lamp but it isn't budging! Thank you |

Hi James, Re the prop nut, from the rear, turn it anti clockwise, obviously removing the split pin first. Some CRC type penetrating oil overnight helps, also on the prop shaft above the prop as well. Once the nut is off, and if the prop will not move, use the blow lamp on the boss of the prop between the blades. The idea is to make the bronze boss expand away from the shaft before the shaft can heat. Ample more CRC at this time helps, then drive off the prop with a plastic hammer or with timber protecting the bronze. Rotate blade between blows. If this fails and don't persevere too far causing damage, go to an engineers shop or hire shop and get a gear puller, either 2 or three leg depending on the number of blades the prop has, good luck, Roy |
