I acquired this Holly carburetor from a fellow that had two other Hollys with the identical tag indicating a patent date of May 12, 1908. Each of the three was basically the same carburetor but each was obviously configured for a specific application. This one seems to be set up to capture hot air off the engine. Does that indicate that this carburetor was intended for use with kerosene? Was this carburetor set up for marine, automotive, or stationary engine applications? The float is pretty neat compared to the scheblers so I included that photo as well. I know, Holly floats are old stuff to most of you but maybe there are some green horns out there like me that will enjoy seeing what one looks like.

I finally came across an application for this type of Holly carburetor. The attached photos are from Syracuse Gas Engine Works Catalog #18 from about 1912. Two of the photos show how this Holly was set up on the Syracuse engine. The other two photos are of an engine from the same catalog with a Krice mounted on it.

Except for the turning dial, the carb is the same one used on 4 cylinder pre Model T Fords of 1908, ie Models N and S. The model on the Fords had an adjusting screw and retaining nut rather than a turning dial. Same as in the photo above. I have a need for such a carb, since I own both a Model S and N. |

Holley did make a special carb for Kero denoted the model K. I have one on a Fairfield Binder engine. As to the hot air draw off the manifold, this was often done to help prevent condensation and help with the fuel vaporization. |

Hi everyone, I have a carby which I think maybe a Holly. It is missing the float and was interested to see the pictures of the one on the forum. Do you think it is a Holly and would it be possible to see more more pictures of the float and possibly some dimensions. My carby has a bowl inside diameter of just under 3 1/2 inches.I am trying to post pictures but I am having trouble getting the resolution below 100 kb. Thanks. |

Peter, here are the dimensions of the float and needle valve in the Holly carburetor at the beginning of this thread. If I missed a dimension, email me. I am using an inexpensive Chinese caliper so I rounded all measurements to two decimal places. I have a nice Starret but I can't read it anymore. I can easily read the big dial on this Chinese thing.
