This summer, I have taken the fantail launch out for longer cruises. But I found that after about 30-40 minutes , the engine would get starved of fuel and backfire. This was disconcerting especially when I was out on the lake some distance from home. I eventually got the engine running again, by squirting fuel into the small port on the Schebler carb where fuel float vale is visible. Clearly this is not a good thing ! What to do ? ? Answer: lowwer the carb so there is more "fall" between the tank and the carb. To say the least it is a bit tight for space in my boat. But with some careful measurements and machining I managed to create an intake "manifold" that lowered the carb about 3 in. I took the boat out and ran it for over an hour, with only a 1/4 tank of fuel - problem solved ! I was inspired by JB's installation in his bateau. So , as per usual, Thank You, JB ! miro You can see the intake is really close to the hull. here's a picture of the layout of the engine area. Here's a picture of the fuel tank. Taking the boat floor as a reference, and the other pictures, you can see that there was about 10-12in "fall" to the original carb mounting.

I took it out for a run today - about 1 hour - ran just fine. After about 5-10 minutes, I saw drops of condensation on the new "manifold". So it seems to be doing the job OK. miro |

Very cool must have been glorious to be out there chugging along. Why did you have to replace the exhaust manifold? |

Miro, You might want to turn your carburetor air horn pointing up. Ran mine pointed down for a long time til a engine backfire ignited a little bit of fuel that had collected in the bottom of my boat. Gets your attention really quick. Jim |
