i have a 42 utility with a 1939 gray marine 6-125 engine. i am trying to get it ready for the summer but after getting it running one time i pulled the plugs and they were very black and carboned up. also while it was running the engine was blowing some black smoke out the tail pipe. i think that it is running too rich but i am not sure how/where to adjust the mixture to be more lean. any ideas would really help. thanks, eric |

My crank has some black rust but after sanding it there are black spots still, but it is smoothe to the touch. Should I have the crank ground? Tollerences are good and I plan on replacing bearing. standard size bearings seem to fit. |

ekvisto, have you had a compression test on the engine? It may be worn rings, other engine problems, timing, etc. When was the last time you ad a tune up? Start with timing then look at points, condensor and spark plugs If your troubles started when plugs were changed. If the boat ran well previously then I would rule out mixture problems. If all the above check out then have the carburetor looked at. Also, is it burnung oil? |

Anyone know of any schematics or exploded views of the drive on a MZ 4045 Auto-Lite starter. It's on a 1949 Gray Four 45. I suspect it's assembled wrong. Thanks |
