Gray Phantom Eight, 175hp and Gray Super Eight 160 hp. Does anyone know of these straight eight engines origin? Car, bus, or other purpouses? If so, of what make? Or is it actually made for marine use? Asking this for a friend and he says it has "Continental" cast into the engine block. Year of manufacture - cirka 1938. Does anyone have info? A quick look in my books (1935,1946,1963) shows no continetal inline 8 cylinder engines. However crysler has alot of them showing. My books are mostly industrial not marine. |

I am finding the same thing as olarry... Continental made a lot of inline 6 cylinder engines in that period, but I cannot find inline 8's. I will check with a friend who might know and post it here if I find out... Regards, Andrew |

Hello again. Thanks for trying all of you. Here comes some more info. Sidevalves (flat head), 372 cu in. Will try to get casting numbers and stoke*bore. The engine has two carbs, zenith or carter (checking this week) - updraft config. The owner has original Gray advertising pamphlet - will check for more info. Regards Johan Ericson |

I see a 371 ci. continental but it is 6 cylinder. With 2 carbs and 8 cylinders it sounds like a crysler, but i don't see an engine that fits the ci. |
