I'm concidering an oil filtration system on a f-162 block.there are many opinons on this subject.does anyone here have an oringinal cartridge system? the trick to this is not to have pressure drop.but with modern spin on filters I don't see a problem as long as the lines are sized accordingly.any thoughts? appreciated.

The power uint i have has a michagana spin on filter on it.Its similar to what you see on the old wisconsons only the return is a small pipe.Lots of theae old filters have a restrictor built into the base, some do not.If you install a new paper replacement your oil preasure goes down if you don't have the restrictor.I have several examples off laying around but never got a picture.

Lawrence, the old filters had a resrictor? do you mean no by pass valve? or do mean restricted to the size of the hose?

The restrictor is a small hole in a washer that restricts the flow of oil throught the filter. The hole is about the size of the lead in a pencil maybe a little smaller. Its on the input side of the filter so the filter is NOT preasureized. There is no bypass the oil can flow through the engine so no high psi.will build up if its blocked. There is no way to put a full flow filter on this engine.Your only option is to use the old (partial)bypass filter.

I have a power unit in the next smaller size pistons. The oil line comes out above and to the left of the dipstick, right where the the deep hole is cast into the block. The return is to a hole below and to the right of dipstick, just above the pan.The camera and the one that can post pictures is on vacation.Somewhere i remember seeing a new addon filter kit.

I got some numbers for you. This is a newer filter used on a later engine.Purolator filter base #66650060 and it uses filter NAPA 1050.This filter has the restrictor in the filter its self so each time you replace it you get a new restrictor. This one is newer so you might find it easyer.

larry,do you know where your pump output is? mine comes directly out the side of the block and then returns to the main galley (center of block)this is where I would put a filter before it re turns to the block.not partial but full flow.

If you've got a 1/16th restrictor give or take a little, you're perfect for a Frantz filter. Toilet paper is the cheapest filter element there is, also the best.
