I have just got myself into a 1954ish Century Viking. The motor is a model 620 with a 1954 serial number. The transmission has a label identifying it as a Phantom 4-75, also with a 1954 serial number. Was this a common pairing or was one or the other probably swapped out at some time. The transmission looks like the pictures of the Paragon transmission in the Maintenance book, is this correct? Also, there appears to be no oil filter, but there is a filter about the size of an oil filter between the pump and the carb on the gas line...could it be a water separator or just a replaceable filter? Assuming that the tach has been working for the life of the boat there appears to be only about 500 hours on the engine...assuming 1000 rpm average. thanks for any info Kim Hartshorn |
