Before I spend nearly $300 on new VDO gauges from Defender marine for my P60, I thought I'd check here to see if anyone has other recommendations. I'm going to replace the ammeter, oil pressure and engine temp gauges, and add a tachometer. Any specific manufacturer/gauge recommendations? Thanks, David |

David, I have a 1970 Columbia 28' that is still powered with a P60 IH Palmer. Lots of TLC to keep her running as this sailboat and iron has been in my family since new. Last winter lay up I rebuilt the Gauge face plate and replaced the oil, fuel level, temp and amp gauges, including blower switch and ignition switch with product from West Marine ~ SIERRA Heavy Duty Series gauges. Price was competitive $25 ~ $30 ea. depending on function. Re assembly was easy, wiring schematic straight forward, quality finish, lighted faces at night readable. All in all... met expectations. |

Thanks for the reply! Much appreciated. Classic boat you have there. I've decided to ditch the ammeter and electric oil pressure gauge, adding instead a direct-read oil pressure gauge and a low-pressure alarm. I already have a voltmeter installed, so I'll use that to keep an eye on the alternator/battery state. As far as tachometer, I've decided to forego that too, opting instead to go by ear. It will be a greatly simplified and cheaper system. Thanks again. |
