Do you have a picture of the Port side. I would like to know how the cooling water is piped from the pump to the engine. When Palmer brought out the ZR series in 1925 they made note the exhaust manifold was used to heat the intake cooling water before being injected into the water jacket of the engine. This piping seems to be bypassing the exhaust manifold. It looks like it may be into the lower clean out plug on the after cylinder port side. The second spark plug seems to be in the center of the cylinder rather than along side the other spark plug. The center threaded hole is for checking the setting of the valves gear mesh with relation to the vertical position of the piston. It you have the serial number the last two digits are the year the engine was made. The reverse gear suggests post 1927/28. By 1929 the intake manifold would be cast iron and heated from the cylinder hot water discharge. Nice looking restoration. |
