I found one 5X7 print from Oct 1973 made from a color slide. I just photographed it with my digital camera and I'm putting 2 pics on this thread. It just shows how bad my 1902 Truscott was when I got it. I would not have attempted to restore it NOW knowing what I know but I was a newbe back then. It has a lot of completly rusted away parts and major modifications including a second attached flywheel from a bailer. I speculated they were running something with a big flat belt and needed the wide face of the hay bailer flywheel. Two pictures to follow |

My Uncle Mike was looking down into the cylinder at the BADLY rusted/pitted cylinder and the piston top frozen and stuck at BDC and he said "what's that?" pointing to the piston. "The piston" I said "THE PISTON!!" was his reply and he was a super experienced mechanic at the time. I could not get the piston out without breaking it but since I had to bore out the cylinder 100thou to clear the pits (and I had no knowledge of resleeving at the time) I took a big aluminum diesel piston and machined it down to fit the truscott. Had to fix a intake/exhaust shield to the piston top and rebush the wrist pin holes. |
