One of the chages with this new format of the discussion board is that "new converstations" can be started in the various categories by clinking on the "Start New Thread" link seen in white text in the dark blue bar at the top and bottom of each category. On the old board it was a "Start New Conversation" button at the bottom of each category that many people had trouble finding... I hope this is somewhat easier. |

Hi all it,s been a while, I have started my Detroit Sandow engine but it won't stay running. Im using the suggested fuel mix of 40;1 but after it starts there is to much blue smoke, and it only turns at about 175 rpm.It backfires and stops. I can start it againe it runs for a while than it floods. Its driving crazy. |

Try brining it to Calvert and JB willl show you how to get it running like a charm. It is probably worth the effort. It sounds like a combination of poor spark and lean mixture. Could be old gasoline. About 80% of problems with these engines are electrical. Either poor contacts on timers, degraded wires, poor connections, or poor spark plugs. Heck, even a weak battery would do this to you. miro |
