I am planning to build the Atkin Victor Slocum (http://www.boat-links.com/Atkinco/Utilities/VictorSlocum.html) and would like to know what old inboards would work well with this boat. The VS is 15' with a bredth of 5' and draft of 1'2". Atkins specs a Palmer BH 6hp motor and says she should do around 8mph. The prop is a 10"x6" type E columbian?? I would love to use the exact motor he specs but any close substitue would do as well. My main concerns are availabiity (of motor and its parts), cost and that it match the boat specs. I would prefer to find a marine inboard with integral gear box like the BH 25. But anything that will work with a secondary gear box should be ok ( http://www.newage-prm.co.uk/prm/prm80.htm ). thanks dave |

The Palmer PW-27 is a similar model and is easier to find and easier to get (some) replacement parts for. You can search this board and you will fine a lot of info on the PW-27. The PW-27 has a reverse gear. http://www.oldmarineengine.com/images/photo39.JPG and http://www.oldmarineengine.com/images/photo40.JPG Nice looking design of boat! Keep us posted. PS: You posted this in the diesel category, but I'm sure you are aware that the BH and the PW are both gas engines, not diesel. |

Good greif! No, I thought they were diesel! I gotta get my head out of the sand. Thanks for the info on the PW-27. I'll re-post my question on the gas inboard forum. |
